Revenge is a dish best-served cold.

A brilliant woman wasn’t able to get immediate revenge on her cheating ex-boyfriend right away, but it all ended up working out in due time.

She shared her story on Reddit about the toxic relationship she was in as a college student.

She also revealed how she was able to rectify her emotional devastation for less than $10 bucks.

At first, her boyfriend was a great match. He focused on his schoolwork, earned money at his job, and showed her love by being attentive.

Unfortunately, things started unraveling between them and his true colors came out.

She felt pressured to pay for most of their expenses after he got fired from his job and started skipping his classes.

When she caught him cheating on her, that was the last straw. She ended the relationship by kicking him out of her apartment.

He cleared all the money from their joint savings account that day, even though she was the one who contributed the majority of the money into that account in the first place.

Even after reaching out to the bank, there was nothing that could be done to help her.

Since he was authorized as a joint user on the account, it was completely legal for him to take all of the money out for himself.

All in all, he dipped with about $5000.

She saw him posting his new gadgets and electronics on social media. He was purchasing random pieces of technology with that $5000, and it made her feel angrier than before.

The good news is that she has insider knowledge about how the debt system works.

In the United Kingdom (where they live), creditors have six years to collect your debt. If they can’t collect it within that timeframe, your debt becomes statute barred.

In other words, debt collectors can no longer try to pull payments from you after six years pass by.

She knew that her ex-boyfriend was coming VERY close to the end of his six years, which meant he was very close to being relieved of all the debt he owed.

Her insider knowledge? The six years automatically start over if you make a minimum payment on whatever debts you owe.

She went ahead and made minimum payments on all of his outstanding debts. It totaled to about $8.50.

In her post, she claimed, “It was the best $8.50 I have ever spent.”

Then, she provided the creditors with his new address and updated contact information. She also shared his parents’ contact details, too!

Her ex-boyfriend was suddenly in over his head in debt and slapped with a court date.

Since he wasn’t aware that she was the reason this was happening to him, he had the audacity to reach out to her for legal advice and possible loopholes.

With all the financial drama going on in his life, the new girlfriend he cheated with decided to dip on him.

In the end, the woman sharing her story never got the $5000 back, but she felt better knowing that his debt history had been restarted from scratch.

Several people have responded in the Reddit thread comment section with their two cents.

One person wrote, “You learned a lesson, too. No joint account unless married. It is too easy to cut and run otherwise and nothing can be done. This won’t stop an account from being cleaned out but can be brought up in divorce proceedings.”

Someone else added, “In the long run, that $5k is a dodged bullet. I’ve seen money come and go and it certainly is a kick to the gut to have it happen at your lowest point. But you are going to feel that for about a year. He’ll feel this for the rest of his life.”
