Game of Thrones changed the game for modern television as it revealed a need for intricate storytelling and complex characters.

Since the series aired its final episode, fans have been demanding more Game of Thrones-related content.

They want to be intrigued like they were in 2011, when the first episode aired and the world was introduced to Westeros.

Here are seven shows to immerse yourself in if you’re missing the worldwide phenomenon.

House of the Dragon – MAX (2022-present)

We have to start with the obvious.

The highly anticipated prequel takes fans back to Kings Landing roughly 180 years before the events of Game of Thrones take place.

The series focuses on the Targaryen Dynasty and the civil war that threatens the House of the Dragon as the realm grapples for the Iron Throne (sound familiar).

The Witcher – Netflix (2019-present)

The fantasy series follows Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a monster hunter known as a witcher, as he struggles to navigate through corruption, magic, and well, hunting monsters.

This show offers fight scenes, nudity, a look into the human condition, political issues, and more.

Fans have already seen the similarities to Game of Thrones, so it’s a show you definitely don’t want to miss.

The Sandman – Netflix (2022-present)

Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s dark fantasy graphic novel takes viewers to the dreaming, a place where people go when they sleep.

The series offers Game of Thrones fans everything, family drama, violence, magic, and you might even see a Lannister up to no good.

The Rings of Power – Amazon Prime (2022-present)

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a classic beloved by many as Tolkien’s literary masterpiece creates a mythical world for people to escape into.

While nothing can beat the original work, the prequel TV show entices viewers with beautiful visuals and performances that portray the severity of the darkness that lingers.

If you want to immerse yourself in a mythical world, then this is a show you’ll enjoy.

The Last Kingdom -Netflix (2015-2022)

This Netflix series based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon), a Saxon warrior taken and raised by Vikings.

He struggles with his allegiance between the Saxons and the Danes as he attempts to reclaim his homeland.

The medieval aspects along with the war sequences are reminiscent of the appeal of Game of Thrones.

Domina – MGM+ (2021-present)

True Game of Thrones fans know that George R.R. Martin drew inspiration from medieval Britain to create the masterpiece that exists today.

Which is why fans of the historical aspect of the show will love Domina. Set in ancient Rome, the show tells the story of Livia Drusilla, wife of the Roman Emperor Augustus Caesar, and the struggle for control after the death of Julius Caesar.

Political ambition and backstabbing are themes that ‘Game of Thrones’ fans know all too well.

Vikings – Amazon Prime (2013-2020)

This historical drama has lived up to the standards set by Game of Thrones that it even stirred some tension between the fanbase for each show.

There’s gore, sex, epic battle sequences, political drama, etc.

The tale of Ragnar Lothbrok (played by Travis Fimmel) is told and it follows future generations of Vikings.
