If you’ve automatically assumed that Christmas is the most popular holiday in the United States, you’re actually wrong about that.

Christmas is a beloved holiday that allows people to get together with family, eat delicious food, exchange gifts, and create memories.

All that said, Christmas still isn’t the most popular holiday in America. Here’s how it compares to other celebratory days on the calendar.

According to Statista, Christmas pulled in a ranking of 78% in popularity. It ties with Memorial Day, which also pulled in 78%.

Thanksgiving is slightly more popular than both of these holidays at 79%.

The holidays that are just slightly less attractive to Americans at 77% are Veterans Day and Mother’s Day.

Father’s Day comes in at 71% in sixth place. The rest of the top 10 list includes Easter, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Labor Day, Halloween, and New Year’s Eve.

Holidays like St. Patrick’s Day, and Valentine’s Day didn’t break the top 10 group.

These stats have been updated as recently as September 2023, but it’s possible for things to change.

One of the likely reasons Christmas doesn’t easily take the top spot is that some Americans who are non-religious don’t love that this holiday is so closely linked to the Christian faith.

At the end of the day, the difference in popularity between Christmas and Thanksgiving isn’t that far off as of 2023.
