A dating coach from PositivesDating named Jonathan Hartley just opened up about some of the biggest dating trends taking over in 2024. Have you ever heard of contra-dating? Here’s what you should know.

What is contra-dating?

The idea of contra-dating simply means you’re willing to contradict yourself by going out with potential partners you usually wouldn’t date in any other circumstance.

The reason this trend is pretty cool is because it gives singles the chance to get to know people they would’ve automatically swiped left on in 2023.

When you get to know someone on a deeper level, there’s a chance your feelings will start to grow and develop over time – even if you’re not initially attracted to their physical appearance straight out of the gate.

Dating people who fully contradict the usual type you’re interested in doesn’t mean dating people who don’t share the same morals, values, and beliefs as you.

An example would be knowing that you’ve only been willing to date guys who are 6’2″ or taller with full beards and colored eyes.

Maybe, it’s time to switch things up by saying “yes” to dates with guys who don’t necessarily fit that physical standard.

Allowing yourself to try contra-dating could open the doors of uncapped possibilities. Your soulmate might be someone you would’ve never agreed to go on a date with before leaning into this particular dating trend.
