Taylor Swift not only announced her new album at the 2024 Grammys, but she also made headlines by clinching the coveted Album of the Year award for her record-breaking album “Midnights.”
With this win, Taylor became the first artist to secure the top honor four times, cementing her status as a musical powerhouse.
The singer and songwriter beat a trio of male legends – Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon – who had three.
The historic achievement garnered swift reactions across social media platforms, with Swifties rejoicing in their idol’s triumph.

Taylor fans highlighted that Midnights deserved the award because of the records it broke, including occupying the top 10 songs on the Billboard 100.
Her boyfriend and NFL superstar Travis Kelce couldn’t help himself but praise Taylor for “re-writing history”
“She’s unbelievable. She’s re-writing the history books herself. I told her I’ll have to hold up my end of the bargain and come home with hardware, too.”
Yet, amid the celebrations, a wave of dissent emerged, particularly from fans advocating for justice in recognition of other deserving artists.
Fans pointed to the lack of recognition for artists like SZA, whose critically acclaimed album “SOS” garnered widespread acclaim and commercial success.
SZA fans dissent
The absence of a Black woman winning Album of the Year in 25 years fueled discussions about representation and systemic biases within the Recording Academy.
Billboard released an article claiming that SOS by SZA deserved the Album of the Year award.
“It topped the Billboard 200 for 10 weeks, longer than any of this year’s other album of the year nominees… More than a few fans of R&B and hip-hop are saying ‘What does it take?’”
Business Insider released an opinion piece titled, “I’m a Swiftie and I wish Taylor Swift hadn’t won album of the year at the Grammys.”
Despite the online debate Taylor’s win sparked, SZA said she was grateful to still have won three Grammys.
“I could have left with nothing, and I didn’t, and I’m grateful…I’m just happy that it all went well, genuinely and I’m happy for everybody,” SZA said.
