Artists make songs not just to make a nice beat but to send the listener a hidden, emotional message.
What is the hidden meaning in the Jonas Brothers’ breakup song “Hesitate”? When you figure it out, you’ll learn a lot about Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s tragic romance.
“I’m seeing her walk down the aisle again every time I close my eyes. “
Joe and Sophie were married for four years. They publicly had a loving relationship with two children.
But all good things come to an end… in September of 2023, Joe filed for divorce, and the two split soon after.
During this, he was finishing the production of his new single “Hesitate.” Just one day after he filed for divorce, he changed the lyrics to the song to reflect his new status quo.
“Kiss the tears right off your face / Won’t get scared, that’s the old, old, old me / I’ll be there time and place / Lay it on me, all you’re hold, hold, holding / Time, time only heals if we work through it now / And I promise we’ll figure this out,”
Joe had explained the change and meaning behind the new lyrics in his band’s documentary, Chasing Happiness.
“‘Hesitate’ is a song I wrote. It’s like my vows before I wrote my vows. It’s my promise to [my wife] Sophie.” (Yahoo.)
He finishes with, “For me, it takes me to a whole different universe. I’m seeing her walk down the aisle again every time I close my eyes.”
As of now, it appears the marriage is beyond salvaging.
