How to save HUNDREDS of dollars on your wedding cake

Everyone portrays a wedding as a super-expensive, high-class event, but your wedding is YOUR wedding.

Maybe you don’t want to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a high-priced venue and especially not an overly-decorated wedding cake.

Here are a few ways to save hundreds of dollars on your wedding cake alone.

Go for Styrofoam

A Styrofoam cake can be a game changer on your wedding day. Instead of presenting an actual cake, present a cake made out of Styrofoam!

Just make sure that’s been frosted with beautiful icing. Your guests will be served pieces of sheet cake that you’ll privately slice behind the scenes.

Check out your options at Costco and Sam’s Club

Costco and Sam’s Club are two awesome grocery stores that offer tiered cakes that you can use on your wedding day.

Try to find tiered cakes that are two or three levels high in plain white. From there, have someone with affordable rates decorate the plain-tiered cake.

Get a smaller-sized cake

The bigger the cake, the bigger the ingredients. If you want a cheap cake, get a small cake.

Don’t worry about the serving size: not everyone eats cake, and even a smaller cake can meaningfully serve a hundred guests (which is probably the number of guests you’re aiming for if you want things cheap).

Keep it simple AF

Complex decorations make a tasty-looking cake, but at the end of the day, they all taste and go down the same.

Save money by keeping the wedding cake simple. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the classic all-white cake.

But if you really need to have your cake stand out…

Add your own edible decals and details

The more you ask from a baker on what the cake should have or look like, the more it will cost you.

If you want to have a cheaper wedding cake, but you still want to give it a little pizzazz, then you should buy your own decorations to add after the bakery has delivered it.

However, unless you know how to design a cake yourself, we recommend that the most important decorations (like piping) be left to the professionals.
