Addiction can wreak havoc in your romantic life if your partner is struggling to let go of something.
Addictions can come in many forms: Drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling, shopping,
Family Doctor says signs of addiction include compulsive and excessive engagement in a particular behavior/activity, constantly craving that behavior/activity, and feeling unable to put a stop to it.
It’s okay to put yourself first when dealing with an addict

It’s unfair to you to go through the highs and lows of addiction if that’s the path your partner is on.
Of course, you don’t have to completely abandon your partner or give up on them if they’re dealing with addiction – but it’s not your responsibility to convince them to stay on track or make concrete lifestyle changes.
You can always encourage your partner to participate in a rehabilitation program, but it’s up to them to actually follow through.
In the meantime, your life shouldn’t be placed on hold while your partner is trying to figure things out.
Don’t feel bad about choosing yourself first in a circumstance like this.
While your partner should spend time focused on breaking free from the shackles of addiction, feel free to focus on yourself and other potential romantic connections.
