Have you found yourself letting short-term feelings get in the way of your long-term goals and aspirations

Let’s say you are trying to lose 50 pounds in a year. But every time you get stressed, you start eating junk food.

You’re sabotaging yourself without even knowing. In her short video, TikToker @stephaniehson teaches us how to stop sabotaging ourselves.

How to stop sabotaging yourself

“First, you need to develop a tolerance for difficult emotions to be able to sit with them,” she points out.

The influencer likens it to paying a toll on a highway.

“You have to pause and hand over your money but then once you’ve done that you get to zoom down this wide-open road and go straight towards your destination.”

Our emotions are fleeting but if you let them get in the way, the disastrous effects  can be everlasting.

Second, you need to start small.

She goes on to explain why you need to start small when taking on new challenges.

“If you push yourself to do something that’s too uncomfortable too quickly, it can backfire.”

For instance, if your goal is to write a book but it feels overwhelming and you’re scared, set a smaller goal like writing a one-page article. Breaking down big goals into manageable chunks can reduce the pressure and help you progress faster.

And lastly, practice.

“Practice sitting with your discomfort.”  She says.

Life will always bring us moments of pain, annoyance,  frustration, and many more. And you can choose to let them get in the way or you can tolerate it and handle it without letting them block you. Especially when they come at you at crucial times.

When you have conquered the negative emotions, thoughts, and habits that undermine your success, achieving your goals becomes easy.
