Back in 2012, Katy Perry had the world in a chokehold. She was releasing banger after banger!
The pop music genre has been greatly blessed by Katy and her undeniable talent. Here’s what you should know about the deeper meaning of “Part of Me.”
Digging deeper into “Part of Me” by Katy Perry
“Part of Me” comes from Katy‘s beloved 2012 album Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection.
In the song, Katy sings about her desire to heal from a devastating heartache.
In the pre-chorus, she says, “You chewed me up and spit me out. Like I was poison in your mouth. You took my light, you drained me down. But that was then and this is now. Now, look at me.”
After that, she goes right into the chorus singing about the part of her that will never be taken away by the man who broke her heart.
In the bridge of this song, Katy sings, “So you can keep the diamond ring. It don’t mean nothing anyway.”
For those who might not be aware of it, Katy changed the lyrics of this song to reference the end of her marriage with Russell Brand.
As a reminder, Katy and Russell were married from October 2010 until December 2011. While it seemed their whirlwind romance might’ve been built to last, it certainly wasn’t.
“Part of Me” is a powerful breakup anthem that allows people singing along to feel like they’re reclaiming their emotional strength.
