Loads of House of the Dragon fans are pretty annoyed by Rhaena’s arc at the moment, while others are totally understanding of why she’s doing what she’s doing.
She abandoned her task of taking care of the next generation of Targaryen kiddos for her own passions.
She was tasked with stepping in as their temporary mother, while Rhaenrya stayed busy trying to figure out the next steps for the war.
Rhaena’s deeply engrained desire to be a dragon rider is something she’d been craving for quite some time, though.
Here’s what people who’ve been watching the show are saying about Rhaena online.
One social media user posted, “Can we discuss how she just ignored every responsibility bestowed upon her? She has just been tasked with protecting and ensuring the well being of the next generation of Targaryens, both children and dragons. Like a MOTHER. No matter how tedious this might be for her, it’s actually one of the most important tasks. And we know what she selfishly does instead. Even her scenes of just senselessly wandering around the fields were just ridiculous.”
Someone sarcastically clapped back at them by saying, “It’s almost like her entire character has been built around wanting a dragon of her own, and she has been repeatedly annoyed at the task she’s been given.”
Another fan who totally understands Rhaena added, “If I was a dragonless Targaryen, my entire character would be built around wanting one. I’m a normal real-world person and I want a dragon almost to the point of tears. Like hello?!”
A third viewer who also totally gets where Rhaena is coming from chimed in with, “She was pretty clear about not wanting the babysitting task. She’s a teenager and she wants a dragon. Did you never disobey your parents to do something you wanted as a teen? That’s how far it’s going. Even adult Targaryens have those sorts of tantrums. See Daemon, her father, for example.”
Other fans are noting that this is the most interesting route the show writers could’ve taken with Rhaena‘s character.
Her willingness to put herself through hell and back in an attempt to tame her own dragon shows the fearlessness she has inside her.
The fact that she was willing to wander around through dangerous open lands proves how serious she is about her mission.
Plus, she spent Season Two searching for a dragon without food, water, warm clothing, or anything to build a nightly shelter with.
On a separate note, some viewers have pointed out the fact that her guards haven’t seemed to realize that she’s missing.
For some reason, they haven’t started a search party looking for her quite yet.
It’s possible a search party will strike up to track her down sometime in Season Three. But by that time, there’s also a probable chance she will already be a dragon rider.
For those of us who didn’t read the books, we have a lot to look forward to when House of the Dragon Season Three comes out regarding Rhaena‘s storyline.
