Matt Smith gloriously plays the role of Daemon Targaryen on House of the Dragon. Would any other actor be able to accomplish this feet so successfully? It’s doubtful.

Matt is absolutely incredible in the role, and there’s no denying that playing a character like Daemon is challenging!

Daemon was much easier to root for in the first season, but in Season Two of House of the Dragon, he’s become a bit frustrating.

Here’s what Matt has to say about the character.

Matt opened up about Daemon with Cinema Blend saying, “He is an island on his own.“

He went on to describe Daemon saying, “He’s let his own devices and his own thoughts get the better of him, and he becomes submerged in his own deep, dark psychology.”

Matt also spoke with USA Today saying, “If I had a dragon, I’d ride like that. He rides as he lives, without restraint. He doesn’t give a flying anything.”

It’s so true that Daemon really lives a life uninhibited by rules from anyone else. He isn’t the type to bow down to anyone, and as of now, it seems he’s even struggling to bow down to Rhaenyra Targaryen.

He wasn’t meant to answer to authority.

Getting a better understanding of Daemon is possible when you think about how much he’s truly desired the crown throughout his lifetime.

He always loved his brother, Viserys Targaryen, but by that same token, he also wished that he had been named heir to the throne instead of Rhaenyra.

He was heavily disappointed when all was said and done.

Interestingly enough, Matt also spoke to Variety about another opinion he has regarding Daemon.

He said, “I think Daemon would make a really good vampire. I can imagine him wandering the Earth alone for all eternity.”

The fact that Matt planted that seed is likely enough to cause a bunch of House of the Dragon fans to get excited about vampire-themed fanfiction novels popping up across the internet.

Millions of people were obsessed with the Twilight saga and The Vampire Diaries show series.

If Matt had been hired to play the role of any of those beloved vampires, there’s a chance Twilight and The Vampire Diaries would have been far more successful than they already were.

It’s beyond interesting to take note of Matt’s personal opinions when it comes to playing a wildcard character like Daemon.

Daemon truly cares about elevating to a place of power, but does that mean he is on the right track to getting there?

Is his thirst for power going to be the cause of his ultimate downfall?

There’s a lot to look forward to when watching House of the Dragon, especially when Season Three premieres. What is your opinion on Matt’s thoughts about Daemon Targaryen? Let us know in the comment section below.
