While watching Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, it’s easy to draw comparisons between many of the characters.

Here’s your deep dive into the comparison between Sansa Stark and Alicent Hightower.

We’ll start off with five similarities between the two characters and finish out with five of their biggest differences regarding their sexual experiences, childhood traumas, and more.

First, they were both forced to marry men they didn’t want to marry.

One thing Sansa and Alicent can relate about is the fact that they were both pushed into marriage arrangements that were far from ideal.

Sansa was forced to marry Tyrion Lannister and Ramsay Bolton.

Tyrion was a kind gentleman to her, but she was never attracted to him. Ramsay, on the other hand, was extremely abusive and sadistic.

Alicent was pushed into marriage with Viserys Targaryen, despite their massive age gap. In the show, she was a young teenager marrying Viserys who was a fully grown man.

Alicent’s father was the mastermind behind the marriage arrangement because he wanted to reap benefits from their union.

Second, Sansa and Alicent both receive help from creepy men.

via HBO

In Game of Thrones, Sansa briefly received help from Petyr Baelish, even though he was beyond inappropriate and weird.

It was made clear that he once had a massive crush on Sansa’s mom, Catelyn Stark.

So, it seemed he was excited to possibly have a chance at hooking up with Catelyn’s daughter since he never had a chance with Catelyn herself.

Sansa had to place herself in uncomfortable positions when receiving help from Petyr, even though he wasn’t her cup of tea in the slightest.

In House of the Dragon, Alicent receives insight and help from a creepy predator named Larys.

He provides her with castle gossip and important tidbits of knowledge in exchange for visual access to her feet so he can satisfy his foot fetish.

Larys gets off on sexually exploiting someone as powerful as the queen. The way he goes about it is disturbing and cringeworthy.

Third, they’re both dark-haired and beautiful.

Another detail Sansa and Alicent share in common is the fact that they both have dark hair and aesthetically pleasing facial features.

There’s no way you can confuse Sansa and Alicent with their blonde counterparts like Daenerys Targaryen or Rhaenyra Targaryen.

They’re blonde counterparts are easily recognized for having bright, silvery hair.

Sansa and Alicent both have dark tresses framing their faces. They’re also both wildly beautiful in a simple way that isn’t overbearing or excessive.

Fourth, they both have several siblings.

Sansa and Alicent both have tons of siblings. Sansa’s siblings include Robb Stark, Bran Stark, Arya Stark, Rickon Stark, and Jon Snow.

All of Sansa’s siblings are showcased in Game of Thrones.

Alicent‘s siblings aren’t heavily showcased in House of the Dragon. What we do know is that she has an unknown number of older brothers and a younger brother named Ser Gwayne Hightower.

Fifth, they both start out as naive young girls who become hardened by the realities of the world.

The last similarity between Sansa and Alicent is the fact that they both started out as naïve young girls who eventually grew hardened by the harsh realities of their worlds.

Sansa and Alicent both started their respective shows with no knowledge of how much heartbreak, sadness, and war were about to strike as they got older.

First, Sansa never has children by the end of Game of Thrones, while Alicent has four in House of the Dragon.

via HBO

The first starting difference between Sansa and Alicent is the fact that Sansa never bears any child children by the end of Game of Thrones.

She goes through the entire series without experiencing a single pregnancy.

Alicent, on the other hand, gives birth to four children in House of the Dragon, whom she shares with Viserys.

Second, Sansa had parents who loved her, while Alicent didn’t experience such a luxury.

via HBO

Another difference between Sansa and Alicent is that Sansa grew up with two parents who absolutely loved, adored, and cherished her.

Ned Stark was a wonderful father to Sansa. She was heartbroken when he was beheaded.

Catelyn Stark was a wonderful mother to Sansa and they were extremely close while Sansa was growing up.

For Alicent, the relationships she had with her parents weren’t as delightful.

Whatever relationship she had with her mother was never possible for viewers to analyze in House of the Dragon since her mother was deceased before the show began.

We know her mother died because Alicent lists her name when lighting candles for the dead inside the church.

Alicent’s father, Otto Hightower, selfishly used her for his own self-absorbed narrative instead of prioritizing her happiness and peace of mind. Ned Stark would’ve never done that to Sansa.

Third, none of Sansa’s childhood friends became her enemies as she aged, but that’s what happened between Alicent and Rhaenerya.

via HBO

Another difference between Sansa and Alicent is the way their childhood friendships evolved in their adulthoods.

Sansa’s closest childhood friend was a girl named Jeyne. Her father was a minor who lived in Winterfell.

When they grew up, they simply lost touch due to distance, but not due to any disastrous fallout.

Alicent and Rhaenyra, on the other hand, were childhood besties who grew up to become fierce enemies.

Fourth, Sansa never experiences sexual pleasure, yet Alicent got to experience that with Criston Cole.

via HBO

Throughout all of Sansa’s years on Game of Thrones, she never had a chance to experience sexual pleasure with a partner she was actually attracted to or in love with.

In comparison, Alicent did get to experience the excitement of sexual pleasure when she started secretly hooking up with Criston Cole.

Fifth and finally, Sansa remained pure of heart regardless of her circumstances, but Alicent didn’t.

via HBO

The fifth and final difference between Sansa and Alicent is the fact that Sansa still continued to do the right thing and stay on the right side of history, no matter how many hardships she faced along the way.

In the end, she maintained loyalty with Arya and the rest of her siblings when they were put to the test.

Alicent is different.

In the House of the Dragon, she’s proven that even if you were pure of heart as a child, that purity can dwindle with time.

Alicent uncovered the confusion that happened with Aegon‘s name while speaking to Viserys on his deathbed, yet she continues to barrel forward with plans that will only lead to war and bloodshed.
