Selena Gomez has faced her fair share of haters and trolls on the internet and in the real world.
She always stands up for herself, though.
Selena doesn’t allow people to talk smack without getting a defensive response from her!
Here’s roundup of 10 times Selena clapped back against the nastiest and most aggressive haters and trolls.
Selena clapped back against conservative politician Sam Parker who called for her deportation.
Selena got super vulnerable on Instagram when she posted a story of herself crying about the heart-wrenching mass deportations happening to the Latino community.
She was heartbroken over everything happening politically in America right now, same as most democratic voters.
When Sam responded by suggesting Selena get deported, it was one of the most blatantly racist and insensitive things he could’ve said.
That’s because he couldn’t take two seconds to step out of his prejudiced thinking to Google search where Selena was born.
She was born on US soil in Texas. There’s no place for Selena to be deported away to since she is an American citizen.
The sadness she feels over what’s happening in the Latino community isn’t something that’s directly impacting her since she personally won’t be deported, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still have empathy for the pain and suffering happening in her culture and community right now.
After Sam said what he said, Selena clapped back by saying, “Oh Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.”
It was her way of showing him she didn’t take his words seriously in the slightest.
Selena clapped back against a fan who judged her relationship with Benny Blanco.

Plenty of people have had negative things to say about Selena‘s relationship with Benny since it first started.
That’s because there are some folks who believe Selena could be dating someone they think is a more physically attractive than Benny.
Others are completely supportive of this union because they see that Selena is being treated like a queen compared to some of her past relationships that were far more toxic.
However, one fan pointed something out that wasn’t entirely positive about her current fiancé from way before he started dating Selena.
Benny allegedly shaded Selena at one point before their relationship blossomed.
In an interview, he called out “cookie cutter pop stars” with “makeup lines” and pretty much everyone assumed he was shading Selena when he said it.
A fan commented on Selena’s page saying, “He cursed you, that’s not treating you well.”
Selena responded by saying, “Then why has he been the best thing that’s ever happened to me? The end.”
Selena clapped back against a fan who critiqued her face shape on TikTok.

Selena has some health conditions, including lupus, that cause the shape of her face to fluctuate every now and then.
One fan took to TikTok to post a video analyzing the changes in Selena’s face in an extremely cruel and critical way.
Selena had no patience for it at all since she understands everything she’s going through with her health conditions.
She commented, “Honestly, I hate this. I was on stripes because of a flareup. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”
If you’re curious to know what stripes are, it appears Selena was referring to a specific medication she takes to handle any lupus-related flareups.
Some fans join the comment section to say they believe Selena was referring to stripes as a steroid that helps bring lupus swelling down.
Selena has been open and honest about her health journey over the years, so it’s a bit shocking that someone on TikTok was willing to say such harsh things about her in the summer of 2024.
Selena clapped back against Justin Bieber when he married Hailey Bieber.

Selena and Justin‘s relationship was extremely toxic and volatile, but they stayed in each other‘s lives off and on from 2010 until 2018.
For eight years, they were breaking up and making up in front of the entire world.
The relationship was heavily scrutinized because there were tons of fans who wanted to see them make it work while others were desperate for their relationship to end forever.
After their final break up in 2018, Justin tied the knot with Hailey Bieber just a couple of short months later.
Selena clapped back by releasing a heartbreak ballad called “Lose You to Love Me.”
In the lyrics, she sings, “You tore me down and now it’s showing. In two months you replaced us, like it was easy. Made me think I deserved it.“
The fact that she incorporated the detail of their timeline into the song was extremely revealing because there’s no other person she could’ve possibly been referring to.
As of now, Justin and Hailey are still married and just welcomed their firstborn son into the world.
Selena clapped back against Eugenio Derbez for slamming her Spanish accent in Emilia Perez.
Fans are pretty divided over Selena‘s performance in Emilia Perez with some completely supportive about how she presented herself and others frustrated that she didn’t fine-tune her Spanish accent a little better.
Eugenio was one person who didn’t hold back from his criticisms because he had higher expectations from Selena.
According to Variety, he slammed Selena saying, “Selena is indefensible. I watched Emilia Perez with people, and every time she had a scene, we looked at each other to say, ‘Wow, what is this?’”
He went on to say, “I like the film, aside from the Selena moments that jump at you, because it has salvageable things.”
In other words, he wouldn’t have had such negative critiques about Emilia Perez if it wasn’t for Selena‘s presence in the film. Harsh.
She clapped back against Eugenio to defend herself saying, “I did the best I could with the time I was given.“
He ended up posting an apology video on TikTok not long after.
Selena clapped back against Disney Channel executives.

Disney Channel might’ve been a wonderful place for Selena to build her resume as a young actress and singer, but it wasn’t always a place that gave her the warmest and most fuzzies feelings.
Selena clapped back against Disney Channel executives in a 2021 interview at the TCA Summer Tour saying, “I signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn’t know what I was doing.”
As a reminder, Selena was heavily involved on Disney Channel as the lead character in Wizards of Waverly Place.
She also starred in episodes of Hannah Montana and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, along with starring in Princess Protection Program alongside Demi Lovato.
Disney had a huge impact on Selena‘s career because it paved the way for her future.
Although she clapped back with unfortunate thoughts about Disney back then, she ended up following up those thoughts with more positive opinions afterward.s
She later told Radio Times, “I am beyond proud of the work I did with Disney as well. It kind of shaped who I am in a way.“
Without Disney, we have a feeling Selena would’ve still reached fabulous levels of success.
But as of now, it’s easy to understand how the Disney brand deserves some of the credit for her current notoriety.
Selena clapped back against body shamers who attacked her in 2024.

Dealing with body shamers shouldn’t be the norm for anyone, but it’s something Selena has had to stomach over the years.
In 2024, fans had terrible things to say about her physique after she was photographed on a red carpet posing with her hands over her stomach.
Fans filled the comment section questioning if she was posing that way to hide the size of her belly.
The video has since been deleted along with its comment section, but at the time, Selena clapped back by saying, “This makes me sick. I have SEBO in my small intestine. It flares up. I don’t care that I don’t look like a sick figure. I don’t have that body. End of story. No I am NOT a victim. I’m just human.”
The fact that Selena felt the need to say what she said at all is unfortunate and problematic.
No one should have been criticizing her body in the first place.
Still, it’s amazing that Selena feels confident enough to stick up for herself whenever necessary.
Selena clapped back against body shamers who attacked her in 2023.
If we rewind back to 2023, Selena was dealing with body shamers back then too.
It seems that this has become way too common and normal for the actress based on all the health issues she faces.
When people had nasty things to say about her figure, she clapped back by saying, “I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally. When I’m off of it, I tend to lose weight. I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they’re going through, and no one knows the real story.”
She continued, “I just want people to know that you’re beautiful, and you’re wonderful. Yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like ish, but I would rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they’re what helps me. So yeah, not a model, never will be. And I think they’re awesome, mind you. I’m just definitely not that.”
This clap back from Selena was especially classy since she used it as an opportunity to send love, validation, and compliments to all her fans.
She knew there were people saying disgusting things about her, but she still kept it sweet and high vibrational.
Selena clapped back against society’s unrealistic beauty standards with Rare Beauty.
The entire creation of Rare Beauty speaks volumes about Selena‘s priorities when it comes to beauty standards in the entertainment industry and beyond.
In the entertainment industry, beauty standards are beyond unrealistic with people doing everything they can to look a certain way in order to keep up with movie stars and singers.
From Selena‘s perspective, all of that is a major problem.
She’s been adamant about promoting Rare Beauty as a makeup line that enhances natural beauty more than anything else.
Rare Beauty’s VP commented on the social impact of the brand on behalf of Selena saying, “People have felt trapped by unrealistic beauty expectations that are impossible to achieve, and Rare Beauty is about celebrating who you are and what makes you different. We’re using makeup to shift the narrative to shape a positive conversation around mental health.”
The mental health connection Selena has created with Rare Beauty is extremely powerful.
It’s the perfect way to clap back against the disturbingly unrealistic beauty standards currently plaguing the entertainment industry.
Selena clapped back against LGBTQ haters with her Only Murders in the Building arc.

Selena has always been an advocate for LGBTQ rights, and she took that a step further with the romantic storyline she agreed to portray in episodes of Only Murders in the Building.
There are plenty of people who don’t support LGBTQ rights for their own close-minded reasons. Selena does not happen to be one of those people, though.
She believes everyone deserves to love who they want to love on this planet.
She’s donated to causes that support the LGBTQ community over the years and she even wrote an open letter during Pride Month to share positive experience experiences about the ways that she’s been influenced by LGBTQ individuals.
She plays the role of Mabel in Only Murders in the Building, and her character has a romantic connection with another woman played by Cara Delevingne.
The arc was a bit shocking to some fans at first, but it just served as another indication of Selena‘s true support of the LGBTQ community.
She clapped back against haters who don’t think LGBTQ people shouldn’t have rights by agreeing to play such a dynamic role.
