Taylor Swift just dropped the cover art for her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl—and the internet is already in a full-on flapper frenzy.
While chatting on her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, Taylor gave fans their first look at the glam, retro-inspired visuals. And according to new research from QR Code Generator, searches for “showgirl aesthetic” skyrocketed by a wild 6,035% basically overnight.
People are also Googling “showgirl outfit” 2,010% more than usual, with search volume projected to hit its highest point since 2004. The trend isn’t just in the U.S., either—it’s popping off in Australia, the Netherlands, and the UK too.
The cover art features Taylor in a lineup of show-stopping ensembles straight out of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Think: a chic bob wig and feathered gown, a burgundy bodysuit with glittery knee-high boots, and a rhinestone set topped with a sparkling headpiece. She’s giving full burlesque showgirl energy, but with that Swift-level attention to detail.
The 1920s inspo is hitting hard, too—searches for “1920s outfit” and “1920s aesthetic” are climbing fast, and even “The Great Gatsby” saw an 85% boost after the big reveal. Fans on social media are already comparing Taylor’s new looks to Gatsby’s glamorous Roaring Twenties vibe.
Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator, says Taylor’s influence on fashion is nothing new:
“It’s undeniable that Taylor Swift holds a staggering influence over the fashion industry today… Swift’s followers also went viral for their recreations of the star’s outfits during the Eras Tour, with fans creating DIY replicas of some of the singer’s iconic bodysuits.”
But there’s also a sustainability warning here. Marc points out that for past concerts—from Harry Styles’ feather boa era to Eras Tour sequins—fans have been buying outfits just for one night, only to toss them after. And with The Life of a Showgirl rumored to come with another tour, that could happen again.
The takeaway? If you’re already dreaming up your Showgirl Tour look, maybe start with your own closet. Restyle what you have, thrift something fabulous, or resell your outfit on Depop or Vinted after. You can still serve vintage Vegas glam and keep things eco-friendly.
