I legit turned on The Kardashians to start taking notes on what I wanted to say about season 8, episode 1, so I could make THIS post, and one of the first thoughts that came to mind was how insane the AI editing was, with Khloe sitting in the African safari and Kendall or Kylie (I forgot which one) riding on the back of a horse somewhere in Europe.
I was shook at how insane the AI looked until I realized they were making a joke out of AI and the fact that they’re not allowing AI to actually replace them or their presence.
Kim started the episode hinting that they’re not planning to stop rolling, and I’m not surprised to hear that. I don’t foresee an end to the Kardashians any time soon. I foresee maybe a sister or two quitting the show at some point, but the show will never actually end. At least I don’t think so. I predict Kourtney being the first one to officially quit since she’s threatened it so many times over the years without any follow-through. At some point she’ll have some follow-through. And maybe Kendall or Kylie quitting. Maybe both. I always feel like they contribute less to the show than the older sisters. I argue that the rebooted show should’ve been titled The Katdashian-Jenners if they really wanted it to be fair inclusion and involvement of Kendall and Kylie.
Kim mentioned wanting to take a year off from work, and my immediate response to that is, I don’t realistically see that happening. She is obsessed with her career. Not saying it’s a good thing or a bad thing that she’s so obsessed with her career, but in previous episodes of the show, she’s made it abundantly clear that work is her top priority and she actually loves it. So the idea of her taking a year off just doesn’t even sound slightly realistic. I’d be surprised if she actually stepped back from the spotlight for that amount of time.
At the beginning of this episode, Kylie also mentioned wanting to have a hot girl summer, but then immediately followed that up with wanting to party with her kids. Not quite sure if having a hot girl summer includes little kids running around, but I also feel like Kylie is so aesthetically flawless and stunning that she can break the rules with having a hot girl summer however she wants to have one because, with or without kids, she’s always been hot. No mention of Timothée Chalamet at all whatsoever, which I’m not surprised by since I feel like she’s made it pretty clear that she doesn’t want to give the public any insight into her relationship, especially seeing as she still hasn’t even posted a selfie with Timothée on Instagram, and she lives and breathes Instagram.
Hearing about Kourtney’s reaction to Jennifer Lawrence’s interview with Rob Pattinson was interesting to me. I remember when that interview came out, Jennifer throwing all the shade in Kourtney’s direction, calling her the most annoying Kardashian sister. But Jennifer always has a sarcastic sense of humor in like 99% of interviews, and she was definitely fucking around. And she followed it up by explaining that she feels like she’s on a sister level with the Kardashians, which is why she cracked a joke like that, which softened the blow of the situation to Kourtney, which makes sense to me. Jennifer’s energy doesn’t give cold-hearted shit-talker; she gives genuinely sarcastic energy. And Kourtney’s hairstyle with bangs this season is my obsession. I actually really like it.
Hearing Khloe talk about an unwillingness to spin the block or recycle her list of ex-boyfriends was hilarious to me. She pretty much said hell no, they are bottom-of-the-barrel dudes, and she would never revisit any of her old relationships. Kim said she gets why Khloe catches an attitude sometimes because, if I’m not mistaken, I think she said she’s been celibate for four years at this point.
Khloe explained that the trauma she’s been through with her exes, mainly Tristan and Lamar, has scared her into wanting to avoid romantic contact with others. She said the goal for most people is to find someone to grow old with, but it’s not something she’s willing to force. I have so much respect for Khloe and her perspective on this because she’s not willing to settle for less. She’d rather be alone than settle for a relationship that doesn’t serve her.
There are so many pick-me girls in the world who are willing to hook up with whoever, date whoever, and marry whoever, just to say they have a partner in life. But Khloe isn’t willing to settle. She’s protecting her peace, and it’s really easy to respect that. I don’t understand why nearly everyone in her circle is judging her for it. Because, as she said in the episode, she can have casual sex with whoever she wants. She could hook up with any random person if she felt like it. But that’s just not something she wants to do.
Based on the way guys are operating in the world right now with all this red-pill rhetoric, sexist conservatism, and everything else, I understand why so many women are opting out of the dating game, including Khloé Kardashian. If I wasn’t married to my husband, who happens to be a super liberal man who cares about human rights and women’s rights, I wouldn’t want anything to do with the selection of men who are out there right now. So I really do understand Khloe’s perspective.
Kris Jenner admitted she’s been getting more action lately than Khloe. She’s still with Corey Gamble, which blows my mind. They’ve been together since 2014. Didn’t see Corey in this episode, though. I did a quick fact check to see if they were still together, and according to everything I’m seeing, they are. He has been featured in previous episodes of The Kardashians, so I do wonder where he was at.
Kourtney taking Landon to the DMV was a cute addition to the episode, giving a glimpse of her stepmother energy. I feel like she comes across as more of a friend to her stepkids than a mother figure, which I think is the right approach since her stepkids are not actually children anymore. She said in this episode she’s known Landon since he was 10, but he’s now 22, and they get along really well.
She got to be there for his driving test, and honestly, I had to skip forward on the scene of his driving test because it made me feel so cringed out. He didn’t know where any of the buttons were in the car, so he failed the test before he even took off driving. I had to fast-forward. It was just really tough to watch.
One thing that’s always been incorporated in Kardashian reality TV is pranks. Khloe and Chris Appleton pranked Kim by filling her purse with sex toys, and I did think it was funny, but I’ll never get over the Todd Kraines pranks from years ago.
I don’t keep up with every business move for the Kardashians, so this episode is where I found out SKIMS partnered with Nike. Kim mentioned the All’s Fair press tour, the book being written about her, a new movie she’s filming, and maybe even something else, and it confirmed my initial thought that she’s definitely not taking a break from her career anytime soon.
Kourtney addressed the rumors that she’s being controlled and hidden away from Travis Barker, and she seemed very dismissive about those rumors. I think it was either last season or two seasons ago when she got hit with a lot of judgment from viewers who felt like there was evidence of some toxicity in her marriage. The big example I remember is when Travis wanted her to run some sort of marathon or 5K with him, and she was very vocally interested in doing it, but he kept holding her hand and pulling her along with him anyway. He kind of just dragged her along with him anyway. And that scene did get a lot of backlash.
I don’t know what to say or think about their relationship because I remember dating my ex before I married my husband, who was a little controlling and did isolate me a bit, and when I was in it, it felt like love because he was so passionate about me. But yeah, it wasn’t love. I’m not saying Kourtney’s situation is like that with Travis, and I’m just saying I really hope that it isn’t.
I like that Kourtney poked fun at her previous comment about not wanting to wear heels and corsets, and she chose to wear heels and a corset in this episode, pretty much proving that she’s allowed to change her mind and wardrobe, and things can fluctuate based on her ever-changing mood. She’s not boxing herself in. It reminds me of the time Kim and Kourtney were fighting, and Kim said Kourtney was the least interesting sister to look at when they were fighting over scheduling for their family’s annual Christmas card photoshoot. It became kind of a running joke, and I’m pretty sure Kourtney leaned into the joke herself in future episodes of the show and on social media. I love the way Kourtney uses her sense of humor. She can be really frustrating in some instances, but I love that she can comfortably make fun of herself.
In the teaser for next week, Kendall addressed the rumors that she used to date Cara Delevingne, and it kind of makes me think they didn’t date because if they did secretly have a fling, I don’t picture her addressing it so head-on. I feel like the rumors surrounding Kendall’s sexuality have been running rampant for a really long time. One of the collective opinions I’ve seen on social media is that out of five Kardashian sisters, statistically speaking, at least one of them is either lesbian or bisexual. But obviously, none of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters have ever talked about being lesbian or bisexual, so that statistic doesn’t really hold any water here.
But people have been making accusations about Kendall’s sexuality for many years now, and it’s true that Cara Delevingne is one of the big reasons why. Kendall isn’t alone in getting hit with these accusations either. Kylie Jenner has also been accused of having a secret relationship with both Jordyn Woods and Stassie over the years, even though none of that has ever been confirmed either.
Ultimately, my thoughts on this episode are that I feel like it could have been a little juicier. I feel like there could’ve been more to offer. There definitely wasn’t enough Kylie included in this episode at all. But again, I’m not really surprised because she hasn’t really offered much in past episodes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians or The Kardashians, historically speaking.
At one point in this episode, Kim mentioned that she doesn’t have a Hollywood star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame just yet, which I found super shocking since she has been one of the most well-known and popular household names for like the last two decades. But she also explained that she’s not eligible for one since reality TV isn’t a qualifying pop culture contribution compared to acting, music, directing, or something else.
So now that she’s been spending time in the acting business, I think there’s a more realistic chance for her to get a Hollywood star. Her list of non-reality TV roles includes Tyler Perry’s Temptation, Disaster Movie, American Horror Story, and All’s Fair.
And by the way, I have to throw it out there that I really like the first season of All’s Fair, even though I know a lot of people were hating it. People were taking the show way more seriously than they needed to because it’s meant to be campy, cute, and humorous, even though the episodes do touch on heavy-hitting topics. As crazy as this is to say, Kim actually does hold her own as an actress next to Glenn Close, Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson, and Teyana Taylor. She’s obviously not the strongest actress out of the bunch because she’s the one with the least amount of experience, but she’s doing a lot better than what haters on social media have been saying. It took me a while to give the show a chance in the first place, and I didn’t watch it until it had already been available for streaming for several months, and that’s because there were so many negative reviews about it, dragging it down. But I’m glad I finally watched it for myself.
She’s also about to start in an upcoming movie that I looked into called The Fifth Wheel, which she’s starring in with Brenda Song, Nikki Glaser, and Will Ferrell. It’s also being directed by Eva Longoria, so I’m actually looking forward to seeing that.
The last couple of seasons, I felt, were heavily carried by Kim and Khloe, so I do love that there is more Kourtney being incorporated in season eight, at least based on this first episode. I have high expectations and hopes for this season, so hopefully the rest of the episodes get a little better than this one, but I know we’re just starting out.
