Pets may become territorial when their owners begin a new relationship, and those who dislike animals may be irritated by the amount of care some people expend on their pets.
When pets and romantic relationships collide, there may be fussing, fighting, growling, and on rare occasions… peeing as a way of marking territory.
How do you handle your pet hating your partner?

Dogs are used to getting everything they want from their owner, so they expect to receive all of their owner’s attention.
Dogs who are loyal to a fault may constantly jump on their owner’s lap and refuse to get off! When they are pushed off, they will growl or bark and paw until they receive what they want.
They’ll show their needy side with a bit of playful aggression until are scooped up or scratched behind the ears. When a new family member, friend, or lover arrives, dongs sometimes don’t want that person vying for attention from their owner.
Cats who dislike people generally flee and hide. Dogs, on the other hand, may become canine chaperones, shoving people apart to sit between them, snarling at them when their spouse attempts to get into bed, and even banning them from the bedroom.
It might be difficult for individuals who don’t have a pet to grasp the value of animal friendship. When their love partner is preoccupied with a pet, they may feel left out, resulting in feelings of annoyance, jealousy, resentment, and insecurity.
When you witness your new significant other engaging with your pet, give positive reinforcement. Praise and affection work across species, which is a time-honored approach for acquiring a new viewpoint and putting yourself in the shoes of another.

Ask yourself questions like, “What might be annoying about my pet?” or “How would I feel if I weren’t an animal lover?”
Have some open dialogue with your partner. Describe how and why your pet makes you happy. Explain what it takes to handle your pet’s needs and wants.

If the situation is serious enough, sign your partner up for bonding and training classes with your pet. This is an investment you should be willing to make to create a peaceful environment at home.
Finally, be aware that compromise is crucial in every relationship. But if the person you’re dating offers an ultimatum — “It’s me or the pet” — reconsider whether this is truly the person you want to be with.
