Across the board, Madame Web has been dubbed an embarrassment, a flop, and a fail. It included an incredible cast of actresses, so it had every reason to do well at the box office.
Sydney Sweeney and Dakota Johnson were two of the main stars! Instead, audiences and critics have been bashing it nonstop.
During Sydney‘s Saturday Night Live monologue, she jokingly, said, “You definitely did not see me in Madame Web.”
She went on to tell the LA Times, “I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen.“
Other stars who regret their roles
Sadly, Sydney isn’t the only actress who’s been through something like this.
Halle Berry regrets Catwoman from 2004. Jessica Alba regrets Fantastic Four from 2005
Katherine Heigl regrets Knocked Up from 2007. Robert Pattinson regrets the Twilight franchise that started in 2008
Shailene Woodley regrets The Secret Life of the American Teenager which premiered in 2008. And Jennifer Lawrence regrets Passengers from 2016.
Interestingly enough, Madame Web wasn’t technically even a commercial flop. It made $97.2 million at the box office from a budget of $80 million.
Obviously, superhero movies are recognized for pulling in way more money than that, though, so expectations were higher.
By contrast, Sydney’s romantic comedy Anyone But You ended up pulling in more than $200 million at the box office, which proves that Sydney herself is not to blame.
Madame Web simply wasn’t well-received due to how poorly the plot and characters were written.
