TikToker @EmOntheBrain is a neuroscientist on social media who has a few tips on what you shouldn’t do to protect yourself from negative and harmful emotions and bad vibrations.

Follow these life hacks (or rather, don’t follow them) and you’ll have a more protected and healthier mindset.

Don’t watch negative or scary television

“Scary shows at night can elevate cortisol (note: having too much cortisol can result in major issues) and disrupt sleep,” according to @emonthebrian.

Go to bed with a more relaxing and comfortable show, like a sitcom, and save the scary movies for a special occasion, like Halloween.

Don’t listen to or sing lyrics that you don’t want to claim

“Listening to music actually activates neuroplasticity and the brain’s ability to rewire. So the lyrics that you sing when you’re listening to music are being wired in even more than if you just sang them.”

Be careful about what songs you listen to or sing, because they can quite literally leave an impression on you that you might not want.

There is music you can listen to that can improve your mindset—find out what they are!

Don’t judge yourself or other people

“…Whenever you are judging other people about is linked to something you are judging yourself about internally.”

In judging others, you are projecting what you judge about yourself, and refusing to do either will result in greater self-esteem as well as a greater understanding of others!
