If you ask us, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of the greatest movies of the mid-2000s – and one of the greatest movies of all time.
The movie was a big hit, and some of the actors and cast have moved on to become household names themselves. What are they up to in 2024?
Jim Carrey
In a unique role from the comedy actor, Jim Carrey played Joel Barish, a restrained introvert who gets into a troublesome on-and-off relationship with Clementine Kruczynski.
Since then, he’s mostly moved back into more comedic roles, though his role as Joel remains a key part of many film buffs’ minds (how ironic!).
As of 2023, Jim expressed a desire to step away from acting, though rumors have surfaced for him to return in films such as The Grinch 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 2023.
Kate Winslet
Kate Winslet played Clementine, a troubled extrovert who tries and fails to get Joel out of her mind.
Kate is still very much into acting to this day. Her most high-profile work for 2024 is The Regime, an HBO miniseries where she plays the Chancellor of an authoritarian regime that is slowly falling apart.
Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten Dunst played the role of Mary Svevo in the movie. Her more recent projects include The Power of the Dog in 2021 and Bring It On: Cheer or Die in 2022. This year, she stars in a movie called Civil War.
Mark Ruffalo
Mark Ruffalo has had a big career since filming Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind playing the character of Stan.
Most recently, his movies have been Avengers: Endgame, The Adam Project, and Poor Things. He is set to star in two more upcoming Marvel movies in 2026 and 2027.
Elijah Wood
Elijah Wood played the role of Patrick Wertz in the movie. Since then, he’s been making a name for himself as a movie producer. Some of the movies he’s produced are Color Out of Space, Archenemy, and No Man of God.
Tom Wilkinson
Tom Wilkinson played Dr. Howard in the movie. Viewers can argue that Dr. Howard’s methods took modern medicine way too far.
In real life, the most recent project Tom has been part of is a 2023 drama series called The Full Monty.
