Miley Cyrus is one of today’s hit sensations, but anyone who’s an adult now remembers her as the teen singer Hannah Montana.
She was killing the game in her titular Disney Channel show.
Very few celebrities make as successful a jump from teen star to pop star as Miley did, so what does she think about her old days? Does she miss playing the role of Hannah Montana?
“I felt like I was never going to amount to the success of Hannah Montana.”
Miley has done a lot to distance herself from the Hannah Montana persona as she’s gotten older.
You would never see something like “Wrecking Ball” play on Disney Channel at 3 pm in the afternoon for pre-teens, tweens, and teens.
Many fans speculate that the change in style served as evidence that Miley is embarrassed by Hannah Montana.
However, the reality of that is actually quite complicated.
Miley once told Teen Vogue that the more she played Hannah Montana on stage or behind a camera, the more she acted like the character in real life. “Talk about an identity crisis. I was a character almost as often as I was myself.”
The premise of Hannah Montana is that no one cared about the mild-mannered Miley while everyone loved Hannah Montana, and Miley went through a real-life version of those events.
“I had to evolve because Hannah was larger than life, larger than me. I felt like I was never going to amount to the success of Hannah Montana,” she told Rolling Stone.
Despite everything, however, Miley is open to bringing the character back, now that she has defined those boundaries herself.
Would you be stoked to see Miley reprise the role of Hannah in an updated series or movie? Let us know in the comments.
