No one wants to feel miserable waking up for work every single day. Unfortunately, some workplace environments are more toxic than others.

According to James Dooley, the founder of FatRank, here are a few red flags to keep an eye out for.

There isn’t much transparency or communication.

The first red flag to look out for is a lack of communication and transparency in the workplace.

The people in charge should be accessible to employees who have questions about anything and everything.

As an employee, you should never feel like you’re in the dark about what’s happening at your job.

Without communication and transparency, you’ll feel unstable and unsteady in the workplace.

The second red flag to look out for are blatant signs of favoritism and imbalanced dynamics.

If it’s obvious that some of your coworkers are being treated better than others, favoritism is certainly at play.

Unhealthy power dynamics are just as bad since they never seem to be in favor of the lower-level employee.

The third red flag that should alarm you is being given excessive workloads with unrealistic expectations.

You can expect a certain level of stress at any job you accept, but the workload shouldn’t be so excessive that it forces you to sacrifice your personal time.

The workload shouldn’t send you spiraling down a path of anxiety or depression, either. Any deadlines you’re given should be completely reasonable.

Which of these toxic red flags have you noticed at your own workplace? If you were interviewing for a job notice any of these red flags off the back, would you still accept a job offer?
