Detoxing your mind, body, and soul is the perfect way to reset.

If your mental health is struggling, you’re feeling down about yourself, or you’re shrouded in unanswered life questions, detoxing could be exactly what you need.

Detoxing, also known as cleansing, is life-changing for a multitude of reasons. When you release things that aren’t good for you, it gives you the chance to blossom and grow.

Follow these guidelines for 72-hours in order to achieve bliss.

Fasting

The starting point of a three-day detox revolves around food. Don’t consume food for 72-hours in order to truly cleanse yourself.

A three-day fast allows the body to enter autophagy, which is a natural state of healing.

Diseased and damaged cells are destroyed and replaced by healthy cells through autophagy. This includes cancerous and diabetic cells.

Check with a doctor before diving in with fasting to make sure it’s safe for you to try individually.

Journaling

Writing things down in a journal detoxes the mind of any thoughts you need to express, analyze, or simply get out of your head and onto the page.

Use your journaling moments to script your dream life, write down your manifestations, create gratitude lists, make diary entries describing how you’re feeling, and more. 

Grounding

Spend time barefoot in nature. The art of grounding balances the body and allows you to become one with the earth.

The best places to do this are where you’ll find grass (such as at local parks) and sand (such as at the beach.)

If you aren’t near parks or beaches, dip your bare feet into natural water sources like rivers, ponds, streams, or lakes.

Moving your body for at least 30 minutes each day during a three-day detox releases toxins and pollutants. Sweat it out.

Give your body the chance to release pent-up tension residing in you.

Keep the workouts basic and chill, though, since you don’t have food in you. Pilates, yoga, and outdoor walks are just a few ideas. 

Meditation

Meditating for 10 to 15 minutes each day calms and clears the mind. Meditate in solitude to see if there’s anything you need to learn or discover.

Your mind may reveal things to you that you were previously unaware of. People often say that fasting brings them to a point of true mental clarity.

Questions that have been circulating in your mind for years may be answered.

Dry brushing

Grab yourself a dry brush and start using it on your body during this detox. Dry brushing drains lymphatic system and increased circulation.

Grove says, “Start with upward strokes from your feet and go around each calf, thigh, your butt, lower back, and your stomach.

“Pay special attention to your upper thighs because there are lymph nodes in that area. Brush in upward strokes from your hands to your shoulders, working from the backs of your hands and around your forearms to your biceps.

“Spend extra time on the lymph nodes in your upper arms, and try to brush your upper back where you can reach.

“But don’t worry if you miss a few spots! Working in downward strokes with gentle pressure, start from your neck and move toward your upper chest. Finish your routine by brushing in circular motions over your heart.”

Epsom salt soak

Sit in the bathtub for an Epsom salt soak each day. This type of soak helps pull toxins out of the body.

You can also add apple cider vinegar and essential oils to the water. Soak for 30 minutes or until the water is no longer hot.

Cold showers

After soaking in the tub, stand up and rinse off in ice cold water.

Cold water works wonder for your vagus nerve, which calms your spirit and keeps you from dealing with insomnia at night.

CyroStar says, “Cold Showers Are Detoxifying – Cold water causes your blood to flow to your skin and your pores more rapidly, which makes it easier for your liver and kidneys to get rid of toxins that are stored in your body.”

Water consumption

Water is key. It helps flush everything out. There are a few different approaches you can take. Drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water is one way.

Penn Medicine says, “As a general rule of thumb, you should try to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, every day. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, it is recommended you drink 100 ounces of water.”

Sleep more

Sleep throughout the night – and take naps throughout the day if needed. Don’t say “no” to rest when your body wants it.

Getting as much sleep as possible during your three-day fast is imperative. 

No alcohol or substances

Skipping out on alcohol and other substances is a MUST while detoxing your body from the inside out.

You’re cleaning your body of toxins, so don’t consume any known toxins during this process. 

No social media

Teak a break from social media during this time. You don’t have to take a break from your phone altogether, nor do you have to take a break from all technology… but social media (specifically) should temporarily be placed on the back burner.

Social media can be draining, exhausting, and rough on the mind if you find yourself easily comparing the status of your life to others.

Put your social media apps in a hidden folder for 72 hours and turn those notifications off. Your mental health will thank you. 

*NOTE* If social media is something you use for work or something that simply doesn’t bother you in a negative way, it’s not a problem to continue using it during your detox.

Prayer

For all the believers out there, praying during your three-day detox will give you a chance to grow closer to God.

Fasting is mentioned biblically as something you can do to create a sense of discipline and closeness to the creator.
