Selena clapped back against Eugenio Derbez for slamming her Spanish accent in Emilia Perez.

Fans are pretty divided over Selena‘s performance in Emilia Perez with some completely supportive about how she presented herself and others frustrated that she didn’t fine-tune her Spanish accent a little better.

Eugenio was one person who didn’t hold back from his criticisms because he had higher expectations from Selena.

According to Variety, he slammed Selena saying, “Selena is indefensible. I watched Emilia Perez with people, and every time she had a scene, we looked at each other to say, ‘Wow, what is this?’”

He went on to say, “I like the film, aside from the Selena moments that jump at you, because it has salvageable things.”

In other words, he wouldn’t have had such negative critiques about Emilia Perez if it wasn’t for Selena‘s presence in the film. Harsh.

She clapped back against Eugenio to defend herself saying, “I did the best I could with the time I was given.“

He ended up posting an apology video on TikTok not long after.
