Sometimes the universe protects you in ways you don’t recognize until much later. You cry. You overthink. You spiral. You blame yourself.
And then, months—or even years—down the line, the truth clicks: that door didn’t close on you… it closed for you.
Let me tell you a story.
A couple of years ago, I went through three rounds of interviews for a writing job at Sports Illustrated. Yes—that Sports Illustrated.
It was a big name, a big opportunity, and a role that aligned with everything I thought I wanted at the time.
I did an unpaid writing test, had multiple video calls, and even provided contact info for three former editors and colleagues so they could vouch for my work ethic and skill.
I was fully in it. I showed up prepared. I made time. I was optimistic. I held space for this new chapter.
And then… nothing.
No follow-up. No courtesy email. No “we’ve moved in a different direction.” Just silence. Ghosted.
They hired someone else and never had the decency to say anything to me at all—after weeks of time, energy, and vulnerability on my part.
I remember being hurt—not just because I didn’t get the job, but because I expected professionalism from such a big name.
I expected more integrity. I expected acknowledgment of the effort I gave. But what I got instead was a lesson in spiritual redirection.
However, rejection is redirection – always
At the time, I felt overlooked. Unseen. Like all my energy had been wasted.
But in early 2024, headlines came out announcing that Sports Illustrated was cleaning house—layoffs, chaos, and mass editorial firings.
Many of the same positions I once dreamed of were now gone. The brand I once saw as aspirational was now being gutted, restructured, and destabilized.
And in that moment, everything made sense.
The “rejection” I took personally? It was divine protection.
The silence I felt crushed by? It was the universe rerouting me.
The ghosting that triggered my unhealed wounds? It was actually grace disguised as disappointment.
The universe will never let you settle for something unstable
One thing I’ve learned in my manifestation journey is that alignment isn’t just about what you gain. It’s also about what you avoid.
We always talk about calling in money, love, health, career wins—but we don’t always realize that what doesn’t work out is often a bigger blessing than what does.
Imagine if I had gotten that job. Imagine if I had uprooted my life or built my identity around a brand that was never built to last.
Imagine giving my energy to something that was already crumbling behind the scenes.
What looked like a “no” was actually the universe saying:
“There’s something better. Stay open.”
Rejection doesn’t mean you’re not good enough
It’s easy to internalize rejection—especially when it comes from institutions we’ve been conditioned to admire.
Whether it’s a job, a person, a friend group, or a creative opportunity, when someone doesn’t choose us, we start asking the wrong questions:
- What’s wrong with me?
- Why wasn’t I good enough?
- Did I say something off?
- Should I have followed up more?
- Am I delusional for thinking I had a chance?
But those are fear-based questions rooted in scarcity. They don’t serve you. The better questions are:
- What did this situation reveal about them?
- How might this have been misaligned in ways I couldn’t see yet?
- What would accepting this have cost me in the long run?
- What is the universe trying to make space for?
When you start asking those questions, everything shifts. Rejection becomes clarity. Silence becomes protection. Delay becomes divine timing.
You’re never being denied. You’re being rerouted.
In every “no” is a deeper “yes” to something better. But sometimes you have to walk through the storm of disappointment before you can see the sun on the other side.
I look back now and realize: that ghosting was one of the best things that ever happened to me.
It forced me to build my own brand: LoveTravelBeauty!
To write my own story. To stop giving power to big names just because they’re loud or legacy-driven.
I didn’t just get rejected—I got realigned.
And what’s coming now? It’s not just a job. It’s a calling.
It’s not just a paycheck. It’s a platform.
It’s not just acceptance. It’s alignment.
So if you’re in a season of closed doors, unread emails, or people not choosing you—don’t beg. Don’t chase. Don’t let your worth be defined by their silence.
The universe is already working behind the scenes.
Trust the redirection.
Your “no” is making space for your miracle.
