The character of Pam Beesly is known for being sweet, timid, shy, and thoughtful. Viewers loved seeing her relationship with Jim Halpert begin after watching him silently pine after her in the first few seasons.
She is one of the most levelheaded, normal, and intelligent characters from the show… in comparison to characters such as Creed Bratton and Erin Hannon for example.
After watching and rewatching The Office so many times, opinions on Pam might switch up a bit. Here are five times it was easy to relate to her and five times she was bugging.
It was annoying when Pam dressed like a boring grandma every day at work
It was relatable when Pam through the coal walk and spoke up about ALL her feels
When Pam expressed her feelings to everyone in the office on beach day, including Jim, it was pretty rad. She is usually too shy and quiet to speak up about what she is feeling.
After she ran over the coal walk, she let out all of her emotions. Anyone who’s ever struggled with opening up in a vulnerable way can probably relate.
Pam was in her mid-twenties at the beginning of The Office, dressing like a grandma. She was around 24 or 25 years old and her outfits were always so outdated and boring.
After she got older and married Jim, her outfits still sucked… but they slightly improved. Modesty is understandable, but she made no attempt to look good at all.
It was annoying when Pam didn’t record CeCe’s recital to take the mural phone call
Pam was supposed to record CeCe’s recital to send the video footage to Jim. He was busy working and couldn’t make it to the show. Instead of recording, she took a phone call that could have 100% waited.
The phone call was about her finding out she could paint a mural. That call could have gone to voicemail and she could have listened to the message later.
She should have just recorded her daughter’s performance. This scene was honestly annoying and it’s understandable why Jim was pissed off.
It was relatable when Pam felt fearful about going into labor
Pam’s fear of going into labor is extremely understandable. When she was about to have her child, she broke down because of how terrified she was.
She was scared to go to the hospital to give birth because childbirth is a VERY scary thing. It’s amazing that women do it every single day.
It was annoying when Pam got in the way of Jim’s career success at Athlead
It was beyond annoying when Pam got in the way of Jim’s career. She should have agreed to move to Philly so that he could pursue his sports marketing career.
Instead, she wanted to hold him back and keep him trapped in Scranton. Pam was really very f***ed up for that, excuse the language!
If she agreed to let the family move to Philly, Jim working at Athlead full-time and enjoying his career could have allowed her to become a full-time artist and stay-at-home mom.
She could have been in Philly painting all day and spending time with her children. Instead, she insisted on her and Jim staying at Dunder Mifflin, even though selling paper made Jim feel miserable. It was selfish of her.
It was relatable when Pam referred to her receptionist job as the most boring job in the office
Receptionist work is generally a boring job, depending on the type of office you work in. When Pam said her job was the most boring in the office, it was understandable.
Receptionists file documentation, set appointments, answer phone calls, and have to greet whoever walks in. None of that sounds invigorating.
It was annoying when Pam stayed with Roy in an unfulfilling relationship for so long
Pam and Jim were obviously always meant to be, but she stayed in a relationship with Roy Anderson for such a long time anyway.
The feelings Jim had for her were so clear and blatant, yet she let herself stay in a lame and unfulfilling relationship with Roy anyway.
She dated Roy for years while he failed to make her feel special and once on the show, he didn’t even buy her a gift on Valentine’s Day! If she had been with Jim all along, her life would have been happier for longer.
It was relatable when Pam got drunk at Chili’s restaurant
When Pam got drunk at Chili’s (the night she planted a kiss on Jim’s mouth for the first time) she was so relatable.
She is usually such a goody-two-shoes who sits at her desk and does her work with her head down. She let loose a little bit when she started drinking at the restaurant — and she was hilarious.
Anyone who gets a little more flirty, fun, and frisky than usual with a little alcohol in their system can probably relate.
It was annoying when Pam cried about not being able to live in a home with a terrace
Pam described her dream home with a terrace and then started crying when she realized that they don’t build homes with terraces in Scranton.
This scene should have annoyed the hell out of everyone. Why cry when you can just move out of Scranton? She should have realized she could move somewhere where they build homes with terraces.
Why stay stuck in a town that is lame and boring? Her small-town mentality was always annoying. People with small-town mentalities don’t understand that there is a great, big world out there just waiting to be explored.
Packing up and moving somewhere new isn’t crazy. Fear simply holds too many individuals back.
It was relatable when Pam made her relationship with Jim her top priority
When Pam and Jim got together, she prioritized the relationship. Anyone who’s ever been in love can probably relate to that.
Pam prioritized Jim, which is how relationships should be. When their relationship started to struggle, they went to therapy together to work things out.
In the end, she sold their home so that they could move to Austin together, allowing Jim to continue pursuing his career at Athlead.
