There’s a lot to adore about the characters in Emily in Paris, but let’s be real.

A lot of these characters are super F-ing toxic. Here’s a ranking of the Emily in Paris character lineup from least to most toxic.

Luc.

There isn’t anything toxic about Luc. He simply wants to get through his workdays with as much optimism and peace of mind as possible.

He cares about handling his assignments, staying on friendly terms with his coworkers, and seeking out healthy romantic relationships. He’s an all-around good dude.

Sofia.

There isn’t anything toxic about Sofia, either. She did her best to be a loving girlfriend to Camille, but there was only so much she could take after a while.

Her decision to breakup with Camille was a smart one since Sofia was simply protecting her own heart! If Camille had been a better partner to her, Sofia would have stuck around.

Madeline.

There isn’t anything inherently toxic about Madeline either. She was a great boss to Emily on the show before Emily permanently relocated from Chicago to Paris.

Madeline fully believed in Emily and wanted to see Emily win.

Alfie.

Alfie certainly isn’t a toxic character in Emily in Paris. He simply got heartbroken by Emily after coming to terms with the fact that she was never going to fully get over Gabriel.

Alfie emotionally invested in his relationship with Emily, but he still got hurt in the process. None of that makes him toxic. It just makes him a sorry chap.

Mindy.

Mindy isn’t a toxic friend in Emily‘s life, although there are a small handful of things she does that are slightly annoying.

Getting in the way of intimate moment between Emily and Gabriel is definitely bothersome, but it doesn’t make her a toxic character.

Her passion for singing, her desire to find love with someone who respects her, and her loyalty to Emily are reasons why she’s an easy character to root for on the show.

Sylvie.

With Sylvie, we’re starting to venture into the toxicity zone because although she’s a great boss to Emily at their Paris office, she can also be pretty short-tempered, easily irritated, and slightly aggressive.

The reason she isn’t considered more of a toxic character on the show is that her no-nonsense approach to business is admirable.

Plus, viewers get to see her become warmer and more accepting of Emily as time progresses.

Julien.

The reason Julien is considered slightly more toxic in Emily in Paris is that he loves to gossip. He’s not the type who can sit on a secret and his yapper is never quiet!

Plus, he can also be super judgy and critical. Julien is still a lovable character, but that doesn’t take away from how negative and chatty he can be.

Gabriel.

Gabriel is definitely toxic in Emily in Paris for a handful of reasons. Let’s start with the fact that he opened up the floodgates to pursue a romance with Emily while Camille was still a huge part of his life.

He created a troubling three-way dynamic that should have never existed in the first place. He was toxic AF for that.

Camille.

Camille is super toxic because, what exactly does she want out of life? She’s confusing and it seems that she doesn’t even know what she wants for herself.

She had every right to be upset about Gabriel and Emily forming a connection, but when she decided she wanted to move on with Sofia, she continued going back-and-forth about her feelings for Gabriel in the most convoluted way.

Everything about Camille comes across as toxic because she has a selfish approach to the way she handles conflicts.

Is she really a friend to Emily, or is she going to harbor resentment over the Gabriel situation forever?

Emily.

Emily is 100% the most toxic character in Emily in Paris. Her involvement in the love triangle dynamic with Gabriel and Camille has been a travesty from day one.

The drama has been unreal! As soon as she found out Gabriel and Camille were involved, she should’ve have bowed out gracefully.

And the way Emily broke Alfie‘s heart was also super messed up.

Beyond Emily’s love life, some fans of the show don’t love the way she hasn’t made much of an effort to become more familiar with the French language or French culture.
