One of the most consequential actions the Donald Tr*mp administration has taken is rolling back DEI efforts.

Companies are no longer required to prioritize diversity within the workplace.

Tons of corporations have taken this and ran with it, but some have stood their ground.

Millions of young girls played with Barbie dolls growing up and idolized the toy.

They were a staple in nearly every household back in the day.

Over the years, Barbie has done their best to be as inclusive as possible when it comes to their dolls.

Well, it appears they’ve done it again.

How Barbie is stepping up during Black History Month

Barbie has announced plans to collaborate with African American female designers, Nia Thomas, Fumi Egbon and Larissa Muehleder, in an effort to get their design input on their dolls.

One of the main reasons Barbie is doing this is because the fashion industry is only made up of 7.3% African American designers.

Given how influential African Americans are when it comes to fashion, the fact that less than 10% of the industry is employed by people of this demographic is shocking.

Barbie wants African American designers to have their shine, while also giving younger African Americans who dream of working in fashion someone to look up to.

Barbie is also introducing the 45th Anniversary Black Barbie doll.

This doll will honor Kitty Black Perkins, the first ever African American Barbie doll that was released in 1980.

It’s refreshing to see another company we all grew up knowing taking a stance on the right side of history.
